You would like your child to try to learn the guitar or possibly he/she has shown an interest to learn the guitar. Your about to buy a guitar on their behalf. Now what do you do? Allow me to share my top 5 tips on guitars for children.
Age
What is a good age? Generally speaking no less than 10 years of age. At which age a kid's attention span is notably improved more than an 8 year old. It does take good effort to learn and you must be sure your child is able and willing to provide it.
At the start of learning about the guitar there is a lot of strange things such as learning to hold something in a special way, pressing fingers onto a fret in in an organized way and not being able to look down naturally is at first completely foreign.
The second thing to determine may be the intent to want to learn. Education is about developing good habits and playing a guitar is no different, practicing daily, following a lesson plan, and enjoying the experience makes progress so much easier.
The Right Guitar
If guitars are foreign to you always get the help of someone who has a good knowledge of guitars that can assist you. You need a child size guitar because a childs hand and fingers are much shorter than an adult. A child size guitar has short frets and neck length to make it easier to play.
Cheap Does Not Belong Here
This more than ever is what will make or break your childs desire to want to play. I do not know how many times I have seen parents buy guitar(usually a different size) contemplating that if he/she doesn't pan out there isn't much to lose. That is a logical choice, however, it may be the worst choice.
A number of those guitars are so difficult to play I couldn't play it. If the strings are high above the fret board it will be almost impossible to press the string against the frets. You have to have a low string action. If you really want to know what futility means purchase one of those high stringed demons. It's surprising how a lot of bargain basement priced guitars or second hand junk wind up in the hands of beginners.
Lessons
There are numerous types of guitar lessons for children in the form of lesson books, DVD's, learn guitar on line. So which should you choose? It's ALWAYS recommended to start your child off on the right foot with a competent guitar teacher. Notes are one thing playing properly is another. A lesson book can't show you your mistakes a teacher can. Proper technique can only be taught. A teacher can encourage, help to understand, encourage and instill confidence to continue, just essential as learning.
The Future
After a while as your child matures so he does physically, it is here where he/she will outgrow a child size guitar. An adult size guitar will be much easier to play now that hands and fingers have grown. Your young abiding musician's interest in guitar will likely be now well established.
The selection of music style that they would like to learn determines the type of guitar best suited to their interest.
If it's folk music or classical, acoustic guitars are the best choice. Rock & roll usually means electric models of which there are lots of(hope you have nerves of steel).
Country playing can be either electric or acoustic. Most of all your child will be a very different individual, (for the better) music is known as a method of transforming a person, even your friends are different. The beginning of a life long journey that may lead to places they has never dreamed of. I wish you the best.
